- Birmingham company nurturing the next generation of art talent
- Works from six unknown artists have been published after taking part in IN:SIGHT
The UK’s leading fine art publishers, Washington Green, have announced the launch of IN:SIGHT 2016 – a campaign to find the rising stars of today’s visual art world.
Representing the diverse nature of contemporary art, Washington Green – which has been based in Birmingham for the past 30 years – is calling for aspiring visual artists working in any field or medium to submit their work to IN:SIGHT’s panel of art reviewers for consideration.
Those chosen to take part in IN:SIGHT 2016 will be featured in Washington Green’s ‘Summer Exhibition’ at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre, from 30th July-28th August. If their work impresses, the exhibiting artists will also be in with a chance of securing a publishing contract with Washington Green.
Last year, Washington Green received over 400 entries for IN:SIGHT and 20 artists were selected to take part in its ‘Summer Exhibition’ – three of which have gone on to launch publishing careers with the company. Abstract artist Robert Oxley, 43, landscape painter Elaine Mather, 62, and figurative artist Nigel Mason, 63, all joined Washington Green’s diverse portfolio of contemporary artists following IN:SIGHT 2015. Their work is now published alongside the likes of Ronnie Wood, Bob Dylan, Raphael Mazzucco and Stuart McAlpine Miller, all of whom are represented by the renowned company.
Glyn Washington, Founder and Creative Director of Washington Green Fine Art – which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year – said:
“As a leading art publisher, Washington Green is dedicated to bringing the newest talent to the contemporary art market.
“In an increasingly competitive industry where it can be hard for artists to get noticed, IN:SIGHT offers a platform for aspiring artists to get their work seen by a critical audience.
“As a company, we represent artists who are the finest in their field. We have seen a real success with this project so far and hope to attract the same calibre of talent this year.”
Elaine Mather, who released her first collection of signed limited edition works with Washington Green earlier this year, said:
“I entered IN:SIGHT 2015 as I hoped to gain a wider audience for my work and was excited to have my work exhibited in such a respected gallery. I urge other aspiring artists to take part in this fantastic opportunity.”
Any aspiring artists who would like to apply to take part in IN:SIGHT 2016 should send an artist statement, biography and website details (if applicable) to insight@washingtongreen.co.uk, supported by a minimum of six images (with accompanying title, dimensions and medium) and prices of your work (if known) by Friday 1st April 2016. The shortlist will be selected in May, and announced publically shortly afterwards.
