31st January, Jim Moray – Pushing Boundaries of Traditional Folk Music at MAC, Birmingham

Jim Moray is heading out on tour in January and February 2025 with a new single, his first new music since 2019. Moray has been pushing the boundaries of traditional folk music since the early 2000s, infusing it with elements of electronica, rock, and even hip-hop to create a sound that is uniquely his own. His music has earned him critical acclaim and a devoted following, and this tour will preview songs from an eagerly awaited new album.

His recording of Spencer the Rover, first popularised by The Copper Family of Rottingdean and collected by Bob Copper in 2054, is released on streaming platforms on the 13th of September. The recording features brass from Steve Pretty of Hackney Colliery Band and jazz drummer Matt Brown (Cosmo Sheldrake, This Is the Kit, Gregory Porter).

The tour will feature Moray performing songs from throughout his career, including tracks from his acclaimed debut album Sweet England up his most recent release The Outlander. Fans can expect a mix of traditional folk songs reimagined with Moray’s signature sound as well as original compositions that showcase his songwriting and musical prowess. With 21 years of material to draw from, this promises to be a diverse and exciting show that celebrates Moray’s unique contribution to the world of folk music.
