Paul Newman – Stage

Paul Newman has created an installation in the response to the Arena gallery, where this exhibition takes place. Merging the chaos of the artist’s studio with the public exhibition space, the work explores both territories. The installation includes work that takes in a ten-year period, examining the idea of the internal landscape in a public space.

Digbeth First Friday

On the first Friday of every month, Digbeth is packed to bursting with exciting and often challenging artwork. In October you can take in work from local and international artists, including film, performance, sculpture and see what artists in residence are up to. There’s pop up Indian street food and Bombay tapas to keep you going, and Edible Eastside will be giving out free beer and cocktails if you make a pledge to their crowdfunding campaign, www.crowdfunder.co.uk/homegrowncooks.

Fierce Festival

Fierce Festival is back, now working on a biennial model, and brings original art and national and international touring work to Birmingham and beyond. Fiona Banner: Scroll Down And Keep Scrolling

The most comprehensive exhibition of celebrated British artist Fiona Banner, Scroll Down takes in over 25 years of work. Including epic wordscapes, photography, film and sculpture, the exhibition showcases previously unseen work as well as surveying some of her better known pieces. A companion book to the exhibition will be published by Banner’s own imprint, The Vanity Press.

Enchanted Dreams: The Pre-Raphaelite Art of E.R. Hughes

One of the lesser known pre-raphaelite artists, E.R. Hughes was at the centre of the artistic movement; he was a model for Dante Gabriel Rossetti and studio assistant to Holman Hunt. This exhibition, the first ever dedicated to his work, includes paintings, drawings and watercolours from both public and private collections. The exhibition takes place in the Gas Hall.
