Swingamajig festival returns to Birmingham this April for it’s fifth year

Take a stroll under the railway arches of Digbeth and discover an immersive, seven stage wonderland of vintage sights and sounds. Produced by the team behind Shambala Festival and curated by Birmingham’s own Electric Swing Circus, this is a chance to party hard against a stunning backdrop that harks back to Birmingham’s industrial past. Expect visual installations, provocative street art and stage sets that turn these historical factory buildings into a show like no other.

The diverse musical line up reflects the cultural melting pot of the city itself, from gypsy jazz to Balkan beats, jungle DJs to tropical rhythms and of course a healthy dose of traditional and electro swing. 2017’s headliners include The Correspondents, The Freestylers, Electric Swing Circus and 16 piece swing band, Jim Wynn Swing Orchestra.

Stellar line up aside, what makes Swingamajig Festival truly a show like no other are the extra elements, from world class cabaret, magic and burlesque to internationally recognized dance acts, immersive art installations and walkabout performance.

Brand new for 2017, is the Swingamajig Bazaar, a vintage/craft market running from 11am – 6pm on April 30th, alongside the festival at The Spotlight Venues. The bazaar is family friendly and no ticket purchase is needed to enter. Alongside the finest vintage traders in the land, attendees can enjoy delicious street food from the Digbeth Dining Club and free games and dance workshops sure to delight young and old.

Swingamajig has teamed up with The Swing Era to run a series of lindy hop and solo jazz workshops the day before the festival, culminating in a social dance in partnership with the International Dance Festival, Birmingham. Those who’ve always dreamed of running away with the circus can try their hand at Aerial Circus Skills, in a brand new workshop from Circus Mash. From seasoned pros to complete beginners, there’s a class available for everybody.

Start festival season early, amongst a 4,000 strong crowd of devoted party-goers who span the generations, dress to kill and create an inclusive atmosphere where almost anything goes. This is going to be one hell of a party.
