Vivid Projects: Black Hole Club 2018 Launch, 6-9pm

Join Vivid Projects for their launch of Black Hole Club 2018, featuring a new cohort of 22 artists and collaborations working across technology, film, sound and performance based practices.

Grand Union: Sweet Dreams Are Made Of Cheese, 6–7pm

For March’s Digbeth First Friday, Grand Union presents Sweet Dreams Are Made Of Cheese, where Jo Capper and Kirsty Clarke will present two cheese-based dishes. Both dishes, through their dairy ingredients, are said to encourage dream like states. Join them in a lactose-induced haze in the context of Melanie Jackson’s latest solo show, Deeper in the Pyramid.

Centrala: Karina Marusińska ‘What The Eye Doesn’t Know’, 6pm–late

This First Friday, head over to Centrala for a late opening of Ground Control, an exhibition by Bucharest based artist-duo Anca Benera and Arnold Estefan. Ground Control refers to cartography, which has been used for ages to describe, possess, and, above all, to control territories. The artists encourage us to recognise maps as constructions shaped by neo-colonialism, militarism and the nation state. They examine the nature of landscape and its representation beginning from its geological structure and ending with its image provided by satellites.

Stryx: People are Clouds, 6-9pm

This First Friday, head to Stryx for the opening of a solo exhibition by Francesco Polazzi, exploring the perspective that the cloud perfectly mirrors the changeability of the human personality. Polazzi welcomes the representation of people as clouds, through fusing the figurative components of human and animal forms, alongside spirited abstract patterns and flattened vibrant colour. The process of capturing this unique notion in oil paint displays the manner in which Polazzi regards people and clouds alike – explaining the relationship between the continuously changing shapes.

Recent Activity at DigBrew: Nomadic Vitrine: Ella McCartney, 6-8pm

This First Friday, Recent Activity present a new iteration of their Nomadic Vitrine project at DigBrew, featuring work by Ella McCartney.

K4 Architects: Kitchen Food School at Wharfinger’s House, Artisan Friday, 6 – 9pm

To mark their opening on Digbeth First Friday, the Kitchen Food School are inviting you to taste some free cookery classes as part of their special event, Artisan Friday. The sessions are free to attend, so join in or just observe and meet the team. There will be discounts on all future classes.
