Outlander are a 4-piece from Birmingham who combine elements drawn from the post-rock blueprint – laid out by Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor – with aspects of the moody indie rock championed byLow and Codeine, resulting in sparse, starkly drawn out instrumentals. The band have previously self-released two critically received EPs and now debut new material with FOMA – in the form of the 13-minute epic The Valium Machine – which introduces new aural elements and refines those already present to break new ground for the quartet.
