The current COVID19 pandemic has led to a necessary Lock Down which has resulted in some very difficult times for the nightlife industry and all of the different people that work within it.
After several requests from their loyal fanbase The Night Owl have set up a crowdfunding page. The crowd funder aims to cover costs such as social media, casual staff, stage improvements and promotion of events when we reopen after having no income for some time.
The Night Owl is an independent soul and retro club and live music venue based in the heart of Digbeth, Birmingham’s creative quarter. Famous for its soul roots The Night Owl turns 5 this July and has won various awards such as the What’s On Awards ‘Best New Venue’, Birmingham Music Awards ‘Best Club Night’ (Le Freak), and Independent Birmingham’s ‘Best Cocktail’ (Strawberry Fields).
A small 250 capacity venue we are known for our friendly atmosphere, amazing music from a plethora of quality DJs and live bands, cocktails and unique events. Heavily influenced by Northern Soul and Motown, the club holds events such as a regular Saturday night Dig? club night which holds 60s and 70s soul music at its heart, Le Freak club night features primarily disco but also some classic hip hop, soul and funk, as well as infamous dance-offs and Come Together club night, which features live music and DJs playing indie, alternative, new wave and more.
Other events have included our popular Sunday Reggae events throughout the summer and special themed events such as Stranger Things, Tarrantino, Beatles, our festival Owlstock inspired by the original Woodstock Festival and much more.
During the current lockdown, The Night Owl has been the only club or entertainment brand in Birmingham to keep their customers entertained with regular voluntary home DJ live streams, polls, and now online cocktail classes. With a live stream Northern Soul Championship launching this weekend, The Night Owl continues to entertain us.
Customer Kirsten says:
I moved to Brum five years ago and, initially, hated it. I hadn’t found the independent scene and thought the nightlife was just Broad Street – gross I know. The Night Owl changed that for me. It helped me realise that Brum was my home. It helped me feel like I belong. It’s where I met my partner of three years and love of my life (and we now co-parent a cat)! It’s where I would escape when the world became a bit too much. It’s where I’ve spent every birthday for the last three years, where I would go to shake off heartbreak, to laugh until my belly hurt and to remember that life, and the world, isn’t all that bad. It taught me to laugh, shimmy, to care a bit less and live more freely and authentically.
I can’t imagine a Brum without The Night Owl and I don’t want to. That’s why I’m so sure that Night Owlers like me would be all too willing to support you guys through this rough time.
Thank you for being open when we all needed you. Let us know what you now need from us.
