Special Guests announced for MOSTLY JAZZ Kurupt FM, Greentea Peng

Kurupt FM and Greentea Peng have been announced as Special Guests at Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival (Friday 12 to Sunday 14 July 2024).

They will join the festival on opening night (Friday) alongside the previously announced Leftfield, Dawn Richard, James Lavelle (DJ set), Ryan Hope (Gabriels) and Mr Scruff.

Other artists heading to the annual Birmingham event include (Saturday) multi-BRIT Award nominee Yussef Dayes, US jazz/junk pioneers The Blackbyrds, Thumpasaurus and Luke Una; plus (Sunday) US hitmakers Kool and The Gang, DJ Craig Charles, Mungo’s HiFi x Marina P, Nubiyan Twist and James Hunter.

West London pirate radio station Kurupt FM (Friday) reached a wider audience via the BBC mockumentary series People Just Do Nothing. Winner of two BAFTA’s and a Royal Television Society Award for best scripted comedy, it followed a group of aspiring Brentford house DJs, from family dramas to business mishaps, across five successful series (2014-2018). A movie, Kurupt FM: Big In Japan, followed in 2021. They’ve also stormed such major festivals as Glastonbury and Wireless, and recorded with Craig David and Brum rapper Jaykae, while their debut album, Greatest Hits Pt1, topped the Official Dance Album Charts.

London-born Greentea Peng has firmly established herself as a soulful force to be reckoned with. Her jazz-infused R&B sounds boast a harmonious combination of spirituality and music with her 2021 debut album, Man Made, recorded at 432 Hz frequency to vibrate healing energy. Amongst the acts she’s collaborated with are The Streets, MJ Cole, Nightmares On Wax, Neneh Cherry, and the late Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.

Also added to the bill is spoken word and indie hip-hop artist Antony Szmierek (Friday). Tracks such as The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Fallacy, How Did You Get Here?, The Words To Auld Lang Syne and Twist Forever have established him as a poetic lyricist. Very much on the rise, Antony was recently named as one of BBC 6Music’s Artists Of The Year, and also included in DIY Magazine’s Class Of 2024 list.

Set in the idyllic Moseley Park, just two miles outside of Birmingham city centre, Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival has built a strong reputation for presenting iconic and up-and-coming artists in an intimate outdoor setting.

Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival runs from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 July 2024 at Moseley Park and Pool, Moseley, Birmingham. For more details and tickets, see: mostlyjazz.co.uk

ABOUT MOSTLY JAZZ FUNK AND SOUL FESTIVAL

Debuting in 2010, Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival is a diverse, vibrant festival, celebrating ground-breaking, innovative UK music alongside international trailblazers. Held in Moseley Park, a stunning 11-acre woodland glade in the heart of Moseley Village, the festival is just two miles from the centre of Birmingham, yet is a world away from city life. With sloping grounds, creating a natural amphitheatre in front of the beautiful lake, it’s the perfect setting for a festival. Each year Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul brings incredible artists, workshops, arts, crafts, and a selection of Birmingham’s most loved street food and drinks vendors to Moseley, for one epic party weekend.

Previous headliners include Chic feat. Nile Rodgers, Public Enemy, Gregory Porter, Chaka Khan, De La Soul, Bonobo, The Specials, The Wailers, Goldie, Fat Freddy’s Drop and KC and The Sunshine Band.
