Two weeks to go till the first Heath Comedy Fest!

It’s just two weeks until the first ever Comedy Festival comes to the vibrant community of Kings Heath, with events running from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th July. This exciting new festival – from the organising talent at cult hit comedy night Hare of the Dog – promises to deliver four days of fabulous performances, featuring some of the most hilarious and celebrated acts in the UK comedy scene.

We’re enormously proud of the line up. The sold-out launch show at the Hare and Hounds will be headlined by the brilliant (adopted Brummie) Celya AB, and features Barbara Nice and Trusty Hogs star Helen Bauer. Elsewhere over the weekend there will be performances from Northfield’s Princess – and Biggest Prize in Comedy winner – Lindsey Santoro, Edinburgh Award Nominee Kwame Asante, Comedian of the year winner Brennan Reece, TV stars Jo Enright and Jo Coffey, the fabulous Aaron Twitchen, award-winner Anna Thomas and loads of other local and national acts.

We really think there’s something for everyone. As well as traditional stand-up hours there’s lots of special events too. On Saturday night Rob Kemp is reviving his multi award winning Elvis Dead, followed by a late-night disco hosted by internet sensation Ruth Husko. On Sunday afternoon we have James Cook’s wildly popular Board Game Smackdown. Additionally, there will be a comedy quiz, and children’s comedy show alongside compilation shows at the Juke featuring a mix of established comedians and emerging talent, with Saturday’s showing curated by Brummie promoters Queer as Joke. The festival will end where it all started – at Hare of the Dog!

The festival is spreading through Kings Heath, making it a comedy hotspot for four days. Performances will take place at: The Hare and Hounds, The Station, Schooners, The Juke, Houblon, Fletchers, Hop and Scotch, How Brave Is the Wren, The Heath Bookshop and Grace + James.

Organisers Alice Rosenthal and Kate Glaze said: “We’re so excited for the Kings Heath Comedy Festival! We know our community loves to join in and support events – and we’ve seen that with the ticket sales, interest from venues, and offers of volunteering that we’ve had. We’ve tried hard to put together a stellar line up and can’t wait to welcome you all to B14.”

Most shows are running on a pay as you feel basis, so audiences can take a chance on something new at no risk. There are some ticketed shows, and tickets for those that aren’t sold out are available on the website. You can also reserve a seat for a selection of free shows.
