In February 2025, independent food hub, Society, will open in the centre of Birmingham. Following the success of its launch in Manchester, the new opening will bring its signature mix of quality, independent street food, craft beer, cocktails, sounds and coffee to One Colmore Square. The 9,000 sq ft unit in the heart of the city’s business district will be able to welcome over 350 guests into its open plan dining hall and outdoor terrace for al fresco eating and drinking.
Society Birmingham will be home to five independent kitchens each hosted by a talented food trader as well as an expansive craft beer bar, cocktail bar and coffee shop. The Society operated bar will be the centrepiece at Society Birmingham, featuring one of the the largest selection of beers in the city with thirty-six lines of craft beer sourced from the best breweries in the world including hometown legends such as Attic and Glasshouse, UK legends Deya, Verdant and Cloudwater and the finest beers from oversees. There will also be a wine list featuring wines from established and emerging regions including low intervention and natural wines.
True to its name, Society is designed to be a social space for the community to enjoy from day through to night, Birmingham can expect understated interiors with stripped back features and high ceilings contrasted with warm and vibrant greenery and commissioned artwork and murals produced in association with national and local artists. An intimate events space will also create the perfect place for private dining. A vital element to the space, Society’s playlist will be carefully curated and DJs programmed from Thursday – Saturday.
On the opening, Nick Gregory co-founder of Society says, “We can’t wait to open Society Birmingham. Being the second biggest city in the UK, and a hub of culture and entertainment, it is a fantastic location with huge potential to bring something fresh, laid back and sociable… Society is about creating a community of independent food traders, breweries and locals, all set in a beautifully designed space with curated playlists and a premium sound system. It’s a place where people can come together in an atmosphere that naturally evolves throughout the day – from lunch right through to evening drinks and DJs. We must also thank the forward-thinking building’s owners Oval Real Estate, who helped us make this possible and is best known in Birmingham for its Digbeth Estate, which has helped establish Birmingham as one of the most exciting and dynamic independent food, beverage and leisure destinations in the UK. We’re looking forward to seeing it all take shape in Birmingham!“
Richard Sweet, co-founder of Society says, “We will aim to bring five quality, independent food traders to the site to give our customers the best possible choice. We would definitely like some local heroes in the line up as Birmingham has such a thriving street food scene with some superb food on offer. The food guys will each get a permanent kitchen which we think is a great opportunity for local, independent businesses in a prime city-centre site.“
Will Parry, Head of Investment at Oval Real Estate says, “We’re excited to welcome Society to One Colmore Square. As with our strategy at the Custard Factory, we continue to target and support stand-out operators and this exciting, independent operation will complete the destination.“
