Taste and Liquor, is hosting a formidable line-up of some of Midland’s best Female Street Food Chefs in celebration of International Women’s Day!
For years women have been doing incredible things in street-food restaurants, though not always getting the credit for it. That, we are happy to report, has changed. For the launch of Taste and Liquor Saturdays, their new season of spring events, they’ve picked five pioneering street food traders from the Midlands, where women are calling all the shots.
Championing women in the industry and beyond, The Gin and Meat Festival (Saturday 25 March) will be an empowering event with plenty of women behind the stove. From a rebellious Indian Street Food chef to the Queen of the Caribbean BBQ, new female street-food stars are firing up in Birmingham, turning out some of the scenes best food.
The Gin and Meat Festival, was inspired by legendary Chef Julia Child, who said: “Red meat and gin…” were one of the reasons for her longevity. Celebrating this iconic fact, gin-fuelled shenanigans will take place from lunchtime, till late evening at No21 Digbeth, complemented by a global street-feast lead by an all female line-up, dishing up the best meat-dishes!
Manga Singh, MD of Taste and Liquor Says:
While this list is just a start, these five female chefs are obliterating stereotypes and influencing the national street food landscape. Some are already respected names and powerful players in the industry; the rest are about to take the cooking world by storm. We’re proud to be the first street food organisers in the UK, dedicating a big festival to female food traders only, support these pioneering chefs of the future.
