About the event:

In this special Pride event we’re bringing together some of Birmingham’s brightest cinema communities to celebrate Pride month with an unmissable double-screening, followed by a local filmmaker discussion.

The chosen films are a celebration of queer culture, generally and in Birmingham.

About the films:

Fabulous Femininities

In ‘Fabulous Femininities’ Brum based filmmakers Slate and Mortar delved into the cabaret scene, discovering the importance of costume and community in their captivating feature-length documentary that offers an intimate glimpse into the lives and journeys of six extraordinary burlesque performers from across the United Kingdom – including Birmingham legend Dominus Von Vexo from House of Allure.

We’re more than excited to welcome the Fabulous Femininities director and contributors for a discussion about the film at a local restaurant, Verbena, after the screening. Get those questions ready.

(Documentary showing at Stirchley baths, 7:00pm. // Filmmakers discussion at Verbena, 10:15pm. Tickets

All of us Strangers

The deeply moving ‘All of us Strangers’ is shaping up to be a modern classic of LGBTQIA+ cinema. This extraordinary film follows a screenwriter (Andrew Scott) drawn back to his childhood home, and follows his fledgling relationship with his downstairs neighbour (Paul Mescalwho also snapped up a ‘British Independent Film Award Best Supporting Performance’ award in this role.)

This film is a tender exploration of queer life, friendship and solidarity, touching on loneliness, the legacy of the AIDS crisis and the complexities of queer life in a gentle yet affecting tale. If you haven’t seen this unmissable film yet, this is your chance.

(Showing at Stirchley baths, 8:15pm. Tickets
