Following a highly successful run at Birmingham Rep, The Snowflake presented by Birmingham Rep, Polka Theatre and Little Angel Theatre will tour to 18 libraries across Birmingham and the West Midlands during January and February.
The production has been met with overwhelmingly positive responses from critics and audience members alike during it’s time at The Rep, and this library tour has been devised to give more families within the local community the opportunity to see this timeless festive tale inspired by the children’s book of the same name, created by Benji Davies.
Tickets will be free or at low cost thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
The production has been adapted and directed by Matt Aston and has been created especially for children aged three to six years old (and their grown-ups), as a perfect introduction to theatre for younger audiences.
Reprising their roles from the run at The Rep, Noelle will be played by Layla Mehay–Bennett (Spring Awakening and A Man of No Importance, Urdang Academy) and the role of Mum/Pappie will be played by Heidi Goldsmith (WOW! It’s Night-time, Little Angel Theatre; The Smartest Giant in Town, West End and UK Tour).
The Rep are also thrilled to share that The Snowflake is a Green Book sustainably made theatre production. Green Book productions are part of a theatre industry initiative to improve sustainability and tackle climate change.
The Rep staff, friends and family created paper snowflakes made of recycled materials to be used in the set of The Snowflake. 95% of the costumes were sourced second hand or made from fabric that were already stored at The Rep and the light-up clouds were sourced from a previous production and were given new life using duvets donated by members of staff.
In addition to the tour, several of the venues and libraries will be offering a workshop that explores the production with its creatives. Please check with the individual venues as to which ones are hosting a workshop.
