INSPIRATIONAL achievers from Birmingham have been named among the finalists in the seventh Ladies First Network Business and Inspirational Women Awards – including Business Woman of the Year.
Finalists, selected from hundreds of nominations from across the UK, were invited to an independent judging day at Mallory Court Country House Hotel & Spa in Leamington, ahead of a prestigious awards ceremony at Dallas Burston Polo Club, in Southam, on June 5th.
A host of new categories are among the 20 being contested this year, including Women of Courage; Excellence In Independent Food Businesses; Excellence In Marketing & Media; Women in Property and Inclusive Leadership/Women on Boards.
The gongs are also honouring, among others, Start-up of the Year, Trailblazer/Entrepreneur; Excellence In Health and Wellbeing; Charity of the Year & Community Advocate, Family Business of the Year, Business Consultant; Excellence in professional Services; Excellence In Technology; Start-Up and Business Man of the Year. Big awards on the night will also be presented to Inspirational Women and Business Woman of the Year as well as Lifetime Achievement.
Headline sponsors are Edwards Wealth, in Berkswell; Alsters Kelley Solicitors, which has branches in Coventry and Warwickshire; Midlands-based recruitment agency Pertemps Network; IXL Centre in Southam; Mallory Court Country House in Leamington; Bia’s Kitchen Show in Leamington and Sandhu Foods.
The Awards were unveiled at The House of Commons in February and are headed up by Ladies First director Tracey McAtamney from Balsall Common.

Finalists from the Birmingham area include Lauren Guthrie of Guthrie and Ghani, in Birmingham, competing for the big award of the night, Business Woman of the Year.
The region is also well represented in The Rising Star and Future Leader category by trainee solicitor Gabriella Goldberg and Cllr Mariam Khan of Birmingham City Council – and in the Trailblazer category by Louise Baker of Womanic and Gemma Mills of Born2Sing. Gemma is also a finalist in the Woman of Courage category.
Excellence In Health and Beauty and Health and Wellbeing finalists include Paola Spiga of Glam & Glow Beauty Lab in Hockley Heath; Doreth Abrahams, of Laydidee’s Natural Skincare Ltd. in Wolverhampton; Mandy Rees of Mother For Life in Birmingham and Kendal Tipper, a wellbeing consultant in Birmingham.
Local men also make a good showing with Chris Boehm of Leap IT vying for Business Man of the Year and Ronaldo Hare, of Men’s Prosperity Club CIC and Daniel Skermer, of PA Forum among those competing for the Inspirational Man of the Year category.
