Birmingham’s oldest and award winning pub The Old Crown has launched an online shop, to bring some of the best in Birmingham to your doorstep during Covid-19.
The independent pub was established in 1368 and has been a firm hotspot for nightlife in Digbeth. The pub temporarily closed its doors in March 2020 due to the Coronavirus lockdown, missing months of income in what is usually the busiest time of year.
The Old Crown shop brings the pub to your doorstep with a selection of craft beers, gins, wines and spirits on sale for delivery. The pub has also created limited edition T-Shirts and stocks art from local artists Abbie Severn and Beth Nicol (Bethontwolegs), showcasing murals of both The Old Crown and Birmingham’s skyline.
The store will keep fully stocked with drinks from Beavertown, Boxcar, Dead Man’s Fingers, Good Things Brewing co., Malfy, Roe & Co and more, with more exciting collaborations in the works for later in the year. Elusive Birmingham street artist Foka Wolf will create a Brum inspired T-shirt, complete with his blue NHS heart mural that popped up in the Custard Factory in support of key workers. Independent retailers Bene Culture are also preparing an exciting drop of ahead-of-the-game shirts ready for the summer, plus more local art to be available in the coming months.
Having survived the English civil war and host to Queen Elizabeth I when she stayed the night, The Old Crown is rich in history. The listed building has stood the test of time, but is facing jeopardy due to the global Coronavirus pandemic. Although grants have been created by the government, The Old Crown does not meet the criteria, and will struggle through the coming months without support from regulars and the local community.
