A fantastic variety of shows are arriving at The Alexandra, Birmingham in late 2023 with musicals, plays, concerts, comedy, and so much more to look forward to.

At the tail end of this summer, The Alexandra’s annual Stage Experience production is back with Bring It On, a high-energy cheerleading musical based on the cult 2000 film, this Tony Award-winning musical has music and lyrics written by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda. Stage Experience shows have been transforming and igniting the lives and careers of over 2,000 cast and crew since 2003.

Both heart-warming and hilarious, Calendar Girls plays in early October. Back with even more iced buns, this musical is penned by Gary Barlow and brings a stunning cast of music, stage and TV stars including Maureen Nolan (The Nolans), Amy Robbbins (Coronation Street) and Tanya Franks (EastEnders).

The Alexandra is thrilled to be opening the UK and Ireland tour of Pretty Woman The Musical, in Octoberstarring Amber Davies and Ore Oduba. A sensational show that took the West End by storm, and a dazzling theatrical take on Hollywood’s ultimate rom-com, it’s one not to be missed.

Arriving in late October and billed as the ‘classiest, most intelligent drama on the West End’, gripping courtroom drama Twelve Angry Men is a powerful production based on the three-time Academy Award nominated film.

Murder in the Dark is a thrilling new ghost story by acclaimed writer Torben Betts starring Tom Chambers (Holby City) and Susie Blake (Coronation Street) at The Alex in November. A tale that will thrust you into darkness until the final chilling twist.

Local performers from BMOS Musical Theatre company will return to The Alexandra for the second time in 2023, with their family-friendly Christmas show Peter Pan, which is guaranteed to bring out your inner child with this swashbuckling adventure.

Quiz: The Coughing Major Millionaire Scandal arrives in Birmingham in late November, dramatising the infamous ITV Who Wants to be a Millionaire scandal, with Rory Bremner playing Chris Tarrant. Did the ‘coughing major’ scam the world’s most popular TV quiz show out of £1 million?

Throughout the whole of December, The Alexandra will be hosting the award-winning smash-hit musical, The Bodyguard The Musical. A breathtakingly romantic thriller featuring the repertoire of beloved Whitney Houston hits including I Will Always Love You, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Greatest Love of All, I Have Nothing, Saving All My Love and One Moment in Time.

There are also a host of ‘one night only’ gems, including comedy from Ruby Wax, James Acaster (SOLD OUT), Frankie Boyle, Dave Gorman and Al Murray, as well as music from The Stylistics. The Alexandra will welcome the return of Britain’s most successful dance troupe Diversity with their new tour Supernova supporting anti-poverty charity The Trussell Trust. 

For sporting fans, in September there is An Evening with Harry Redknapp and in November, The World Cup After Party from The Good, The Bad and The Rugby Live. Singalonga Encanto and Jurassic Live are to entertain younger audiences and The Serial Killer Next Door will whet the appetite of true crime fans.
