Curl Girl Productions bring their latest show, The Valley of Queens to the Midland’s Arts Centre this December.

Funded by National Lottery Project Grants, The Valley of Queens is a verbatim piece of theatre based on migration stories of South Asian women living in Sandwell Valley, West Bromwich. These women share songs, gidha boliyaan & memories from 1960’s & 70’s onwards. The play takes you on a whirlwind of positivity and joy through stories of strength, struggle and resilience.

The show has been made in response to The Happy Hour Project that was commissioned by Creative Black Country where Curl Girl met weekly with South Asian women aged between 50 and 75+ in Sandwell, running group sessions providing opportunity for creative engagement from painting to yoga followed by refreshments and a chance to share their happy migration stories over a cup of chai and a chat.

Artistic Director Kiren Jogi says: “It was a really beautiful process and we are so delighted that we have been able to shape the stories these women shared into a theatre show in English & Panjabi.’

Curl Girl Productions are a West Midlands based actress-led theatre company celebrating South Asian Culture & identity through dynamic storytelling.

The Valley of Queens will be the second show they have brought to the Midlands Arts Centre, after their incredibly successful performance of A Marriage Proposal which saw Chekov’s well known play set across both rural England and the vibrant backdrop of Jalandhar, Punjab.

The Valley of Queens will be performed at the Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham

Saturday 7th December – 7.30pm
