This May, Digbeth First Friday celebrates its first birthday!
Join the fun with the chance to ‘Go Wild in the City’, exploring exhibitions, telling stories and joining performances. Relax as you wander around Digbeth and discover the eclectic array of food, drinks and events on offer; there’s bound to be something for everyone to enjoy!

Look out for the Paying Artists badges being distributed by Self Service as they tour around DFF venues to promote the campaign, explain what it’s all about and let you know how you can lend your support.
Digbeth Community Garden: Pop-up Waste Food Café, 6–8pm
From 6pm The Real Junkfood Project will be doing a ‘pay as you feel’ pop-up café using food that would otherwise have been discarded to make delicious meals and snacks.
Edible Eastside: Go Wild in The City, 6–10pm
Edible Eastside returns this year with BCU Faculty of Health who presents Go Wild in the City with an evening of story, music, food, talks and activities. The theme of the evening is to support a sense of and a connection, between people and wild places. Students will be serving food (BBQ) and drinks from their Eco van with the usual Edible Eastside bonhomie.
Centrala: “I’ll Bring You Flowers”: The Story So Far. . ., 6–9pm
This exhibition presents work by collective practice ‘They Are Here’ who in 2012 answered a classified ad in Russian language newspaper Angliya. It translated as: “Everyone needs to eat and occasionally present flowers. For both you need money. With no job, no money. Help me find a job and you’ll be presented flowers.”
Grand Union: Aideen Doran: Im Bau exhibition, 6–8pm
Late night opening of research lab Im Bau by Glasgow based artist Aideen Doran. Pay bar open until 8pm.
Open studios of the feminist residency artists: Lucy Hutchinson, Emily Mulenga, Demi Nandhra with live music From DJ Westernra, A Female DJ.
HFWAS: Serendipity, 7–9pm
What is performance? When did it start? Was it serendipitous?
The event will be a night of telling stories and singing songs. People will sit around and sing with one another. There will also be the chance to choose your own song and as a group we will sing it.
The Bond: First Friday Lounge Bar, 5–10pm
Treat yourself to a well-earned rest during your First Friday experience. Stop off at the First Friday Lounge Bar in The Bond Café Gallery with a wide choice of drinks and bar snacks surrounded by the Gallery’s latest exhibition with Jazz and Blues tunes providing a relaxing environment.
The Edge: First Friday Frolics, 8pm–2am
Artists on The Edge present an evening of wondrous variety. Expect more weird performances with enigmatic characters, accompanied by Albert’s delicious recipes, washed down with our cocktail cures.
