August’s Digbeth First Friday brings together an eclectic mix of food, art, performance, poetry and more! The Real Junk Food Project and Naked Lungs join Digbeth Community Garden for their Pop-up Poetry Café.
Eastside Projects opens its doors for the public to see new works by members and over at Minerva Works join the galleries for readings, music and live performances. It’s The Big One for regular Digbeth First Friday contributors Home For Waifs And Strays, so join them for an amazing night to remember with their huge host of artists, DJs and performers.
On offer this month:
Digbeth Community Garden: Pop-up Poetry Café, 6–10pm
The Real Junk Food Project and Naked Lungs have combined to create an evening of food, words, music and drinking. Food will be provided as always by the lovely people at The Real Junk Food Project and will be on a strictly pay as you feel basis.
Centrala: PIND and Sun! Zoom! Spark!, 6pm–late
An immersive night of oscillations, soundtracked from the deep end of kosmische, radiophone electro and punitive psychedelia. Along with optikinetics, alpha waves and DJ’s Delia (Outer Sight), Daphne (Sugarfoot Stomp) and special guest DJ Desmond.
There will be a great atmospheric cocktail bar infused with everything Eastern European, serving specialties such as apple pie martini.
Grand Union: OVER AND OVER PURE FORM Reading, 7pm
Fay Nicolson ends her solo exhibition OVER AND OVER PURE FORM with a reading of fragments from her on-going text of the same name. This playful text uses the exercise and Instruction to frame the relationship between the reader and listener/teacher and student. Begins at promptly at 7pm.
HFWAS: The Big One, 7pm–midnight
Join Home For Waifs And Strays for their last event in Unit 9 before it becomes a wedding dress shop, ending its’ brief but rich life as an art space for all things live and wonderful.
