Acclaimed Northern Irish singer-songwriter and producer Gareth Dunlop returns with a raw, intimate new mini album, ‘Live From The House Of I Don’t Know’, set for release on the 4th of April via Zenith Café.
Some places hold a certain kind of magic. It’s in the walls, in the echoes of old conversations, in the way the light shifts through the windows. For Gareth Dunlop, that place was a secluded house on the banks of Strangford Lough in County Down—a time capsule from the ‘70s, frozen in time with its worn-in charm, creaky floorboards, and a living room looking out over the water.
The collection breathes new life into tracks from Dunlop’s Northern Ireland Music Prize-shortlisted album, ‘Welcome To The House Of I Don’t Know’, peeling back the layers to reveal their most unfiltered, essential form. The result is ‘Live From The House Of I Don’t Know’, a deeply personal, beautifully unvarnished collection of six songs reimagined in a way that lays them bare—allowing every lyric, every breath, and every delicate imperfection to shine through. The record takes listeners into the room where it happened, where Dunlop and his band played take after take until they found something real.
The mini album includes ‘Just In Case’, ‘Small Talk’, ‘Every Little Inch’, ‘Church’, ‘Naive’, and ‘All We’ll Ever Need’, each reimagined with a newfound intimacy and warmth. These tracks, once richly textured in the studio, now stand tall in their rawest state—fuelled by Dunlop’s evocative vocals and masterful songwriting.
Speaking on the record, Gareth notes that, “On ‘Welcome To The House Of I Don’t Know’, I wanted to explore how those everyday sights and occurrences can send you flying back in time—the daydreams and the thoughts about the future. I feel like we have limited time here on Earth, and we should make the most of it.”
The record, praised for its emotive storytelling and lush soundscapes, solidified Dunlop’s standing as one of Northern Ireland’s most compelling musical voices. The album has cemented his reputation as a gifted songwriter, garnering praise from outlets including the Daily Express, Daily Mirror, Rock‘N’Reel, Maverick, The Independent, The Irish World, The Irish Post, MSN, and Record of the Day.
In addition to the album release, Dunlop will support fellow Northern Irish artist Duke Special on a highly anticipated UK tour. The tour will bring Dunlop’s emotive, soul-stirring performances to audiences in Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, and Newcastle, offering fans an intimate chance to experience his music live. Over the years, Dunlop has shared the stage with some of music’s most iconic names, including Van Morrison, Snow Patrol, James Morrison, Stereophonics, Bonnie Raitt, Foy Vance, and Jeff Beck.
Gareth Dunlop’s music has touched hearts around the world, drawing over 120,000 monthly Spotify listeners and racking up more than 5 million streams for his beloved track ‘Wrap Your Arms Around Me’. This isn’t the first time his work has featured on screen, with his tracks in major TV shows (Nashville, Lucifer, This Is Us, Suits) and films (The Best of Me, Safe Haven). Each placement highlights Dunlop’s exceptional talent as both a composer and a storyteller.
