Finals of British Street Food Awards 2016 heading to Digbeth!

The end of August will see an exciting development in Digbeth as Digbeth Dining Club starts its Autumn Series with a phase of new plans for Lower Trinity Street. With their 4th Birthday on the August Bank Holiday, it will be followed by the hosting of finals of the British Street Food Awards 2016 on the weekend of September 17-18th.

Birmingham is to host the 2016 British Street Food Finals with the two-day event due to take place in Digbeth. Running in conjunction with previous award winners Digbeth Dining Club, the area will be turned into a showcase of the best street food from the UK and Europe.

Digbeth has become the epicentre of street food in the Midlands, with Digbeth Dining Club hosting its weekly street food events since 2012. The destination has constantly looked to push boundaries and as part of its 4th birthday weekend will launch a new venue to begin their next stage of creating a centre for food.

Digbeth Dining Club co-founder, Jack Brabant:

The popularity of street food in the Midlands has been fantastic in the last 4 years since we started and as a brand we have pushed on to new levels. With DDC now popping all the Midlands it is fantastic to see the response we have everywhere but we need to develop on what we already we started with. It is a real honour to be able to bring the Awards to the city – especially with these new developments. Hosting the Awards will firmly establish Birmingham as a great city for both events and eating out

Working closely with our new neighbours, they will be creating a new themed bar, the Coyote Bar. Along Lower Trinity Street it will give more choice, freedom, and diversity to your overall experience at Digbeth Dining Club. Our plans within Spotlight and Mama Roux’s in the near future are to open a new split level terrace and innovative spaces to create a destination for street food and entertainment along Lower Trinity Street.

The bank holiday birthday weekend will be followed by a huge 2500 bingo rave, Bongo’s Bingo, to be held in The Rainbow Arena against the backdrop of the 18th century viaduct. Bongo’s Bingo has travelled the country to throw the original concept of Bingo on its head

A real pull for the city will be the hosting of the British Street Food Awards though.

The British Street Food Awards has become an end-of-season institution since Richard Johnson, food critic, journalist and ambassador of the British street food revolution, founded it in 2009. 2013 & 2014 saw Birmingham’s Digbeth Dining Club earned top prize for Best Street Event in the UK. Burger favourites, Original Patty Men also won best Burger in 2014. This year’s final will be held at the Rainbow Venues on September 17-18th.

Tickets for the event will be available for £5 with tickets onsale from August 10th.
