The RBSA Gallery is currently closed for building refurbishment which will be completed in June 2022. Works are taking place to refurbish and remodel the entire building to provide our visitors, Friends and Members with a better experience and environment in which to view and exhibit a wide variety of art and craft.
The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) is an artist-led charity which supports artists and promotes engagement with the visual arts through a range of exhibitions, events and workshops. The RBSA runs the exhibition venue, the RBSA Gallery, in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, a short walk from the city centre.
Robert Neil PPRBSA, Chair of the RBSA Building Committee said, “I’m really proud, the whole RBSA team have worked incredibly hard over many years to get this project off the ground. It will provide a number of much needed improvements to our Gallery which is an absolute gem in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. My thanks go to Suez Communities Trust for their substantial support in making this refurbishment happen.”
Funding will contribute to the project which involves making improvements to the external appearance of the building, this will involve replacing the front door, repairing and replacing existing windows, redesigning the ground floor shop area to attract more visitors, and replacing the lighting system. Our new reception area will have bespoke furnishings, becoming more accessible and welcoming, and there will be more space for visitors to browse the Gallery shop and to view the ground floor exhibition area. The new and refreshed galleries will be welcoming spaces for all visitors to enjoy.
Marek Gordon, Chairman of SUEZ Communities Trust added “SUEZ Communities Trust provides funding awards through the Landfill Communities Fund. We were delighted to be able to offer funding to Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Gallery.”
The work has been commenced and we hope to reopen in June. The appointed contractor is Estilo Interiors who are also based close to the gallery in Water Street. The contract is being managed by PMP Consultants.
