Curtains
Curtains are a very common type of window shade, which is incredibly simple and popular in equal measures. They’re usually made up from two large pieces of fabric which hangs down from a rail, each piece of fabric can then be moved side to side to open and close the curtains.
Curtains usually work pretty much anywhere in a normal household, just be wary in kitchens and bathrooms as curtains are usually made of soft fabrics which can stain easily and succumb to water damage.
Roller Blinds
Roller blinds are another very popular type of window shade, that many people love because of how easy they are to install and use. Roller blinds are made of a large piece of material, connected to a roller tube, allowing you to rotate the tube to move the blind up and down.
These blinds are very versatile and can be used anywhere in a normal home, as they can be made from a variety of materials you can find organic fabrics used in living rooms and bedrooms, then artificial fabrics which are commonly used in bathrooms and kitchens.
Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds are another great type of blinds, while you may see them more often in offices, they still work great at home. These blinds are made of multiple thin slats of fabric connected to a rail, the slats can then be moved side to side or rotated to open and close the blind.
Like Roller blinds, these blinds are very versatile as they can be made from a wide range of materials, meaning you can almost always find a blind appropriate for any room of your home. However, it’s not recommended to use these blinds in bedrooms, as light from outside may leak through the gaps between slats.
Venetian Blinds
Venetian blinds may be the oldest type of modern blinds, with origins dating back to ancient Venice. These blinds are made up of vertical slats of material (usually wood, plastic or metal) all connected to a headrail by strings that are threaded through the slats. The slats can either be pulled together or rotated to open and close them.
As these blinds are made in a variety of materials, you can have them in most rooms of your home, just make sure not to use wooden ones in bathrooms as they’ll succumb to water damage. Also, for the same reasons as vertical blinds, these Venetian blinds aren’t recommended for use in bedrooms as light may leak through in between slats.
