The self-proclaimed West Mids Wordsmith is highly regarded as one to watch in
Birmingham’s blossoming rap scene; with a distinctive pen game set against
beats influenced by the icy conditions of city living, Hunter Bavaro takes a unique approach to his craft.
With a talent inspired by his poetic flair, Bavaro discovered his love for words
writing poetry as a young buck in school, long before rap entered his peripheral
vision. Nowadays, he takes inspiration from the genres greats; Kano, Little Simz
and Kendrick Lamar have all played their part in his creative journey, resulting
in lyrical content and a vocal delivery of real depth and character.
In recent times, he’s seen two projects, All Things Considered & A Meal In Winter
championed by the likes of BBC Introducing, Balamii, UK Underground Rap
and No Signal, cementing his place in the local scene as he builds towards his
first headline show at Bene Culture to celebrate this new release.
On Friday 7th March Bavaro follows up 2024’s EP ‘A Meal In Winter’ with
What Of It?, a brutally honest fable depicting a reality so many can relate to in modern Britain.
Bavaro dissects the track:
‘’What Of It?’ – a borderline rude phrase that embodies a mind your own attitude
and that’s exactly what this project alludes to. Although littered with dark tones
and somber induced lyrics, there are glimpses of light emitted every now and
then to give us “a slither of hope” as I explain at the end of EP opener ‘Start’. From
beginning to end you’re a passenger in the my mind and follow my many trials
and tribulations within Birmingham; Castle Bromwich to be specific. From pub
brawls to battling crippling depression, no stone is left unturned in this rugged novella.’
