Join The Music Seekers on a musical adventure across Birmingham

Join Misfits Music Foundation for The Music Seekers for a musical adventure featuring a 50-piece orchestra for an accessible concert for people with learning disabilities and / or autism, their families and carers. Taking place on Sunday 6 April at Stirchley Baths, The Music Seekers will take you on a journey exploring the city’s sounds.

Get ready to sing, dance, and celebrate Birmingham with Jim and Megan, The Music Seekers, along with an orchestra of 50 amazing musicians from the Moseley Misfits and The B30 Ensemble. Together you will go on a musical adventure, exploring some of Birmingham’s coolest places through music, with lots of singing, dancing, games, and other fun surprises!

Reuben Penny, Music Director at Misfits Music Foundation said: “Tell your family and friends about what promises to be an excellent, inclusive, adventure. We will explore music and sound through a range of activities and games. Sit back and listen, or join in with fun participatory elements, The Music Seekers, will suit an audience that includes people with a range of needs. We will use lots of visual elements, along with sound and movement so everyone gets to take part in their own way.”

Through the performance expect to go on a imaginary musical journey to some of the accessible attractions and locations in Birmingham such as: Tyseley Loco Works – expect music themed around steam trains which are produced and maintained in the city including music inspired by a cheeky little blue engine; Edgbaston Reservoir – a popular place to walk, look at nature and go on boat rides, explore music around the different boats on the water; The Aquarium – a popular attraction to visit, especially on a quiet day, the perfect inspiration for music around fish and sea life; Bournville – home to the famous Cadbury Factory listen to the most famous pieces of chocolate themed music; and Broad Street – famous as the place to go to dance, learn some famous dances and sing some famous disco hits.

Aimed at all ages who have learning disabilities and/or autism, each accessible ticket holder must be accompanied by at least one carer/parent. Although this is great for all ages with learning disabilities and/or autism we especially encourage those aged 16+ to come along!

Rob Jones, Artistic Director Misfits Music Foundation adds: “Through Misfits Music we are keen to support young adults with learning disabilities and autism in continuing to access fun musical clubs and activities, many of which disappear as they enter adulthood. In our opinion, whatever your abilities or disabilities, music and movement is for everyone and in a time where so many services are squeezed financially, it’s crucial that we continue to provide access to activities for young adults that are accessible, joyful and recognise that we ALL should be able to develop and explore our creativity whatever our individual needs.”

Through this concert Misfits Music Foundation hopes to signpost attendees to their weekly Dabble & Scratch music group for ages 16 – 100 aimed at people with learning disabilities and / or autism who are looking for a creative, fun, music group to be part of.
