Contemporary folk artist and singer-songwriter Lewis Barfoot returns to the UK for an 11 date solo tour opening at the illustrious Green Note in London on 7th November. Accompanying herself on nylon string guitar and shruti box she creates a beautifully intimate live experience and will share songs from her forthcoming EP “The Old Bog Road” and back catalogue. With her fearless and disarmingly honest lyrics, combined with her brilliant storytelling and magnetic stage presence, this solo tour promises to be a musical gem for those who experience it.
On 9th November she will make a guest performance at the London Welsh Centre with Côr Meibion Gwalia ( Welsh male choir) who will join her onstage for a few songs.
Born in London and now based in her maternal home of Cork, Lewis’s sound is marked by an uncomplicated loveliness. She blends ethereal vocals with original compositions and reimagined traditional songs from her dual heritage. She has two full-length albums under her belt; “Glenaphuca” (2021) and “HOME” (2023).
Her new EP “The Old Bog Road” is a collection of a Capella traditional folk songs from Ireland and the UK that explore the themes of love, longing and lament. Partly inspired by songs she learnt in Dunmanway Hospital, West Cork whilst working with the elderly community. The beauty of Lewis’s crystalline voice is magnified by the purity of these songs performed without instrumentation and calls to mind the calibre of sound created by the great vocalists; Sandy Denny, Anne Briggs and sisters Máire Brennan and Enya.
The first single from her forthcoming EP, “Blow The Wind Southerly”, is due for release on 4th October 2024.
The tour is supported by Culture Ireland.
