Jim Ryan commented;
When we started planning Miss Moneypenny’s return to Birmingham, we knew we had come up with something spectacular! Interpreting the sound of Miss Moneypenny’s with an orchestra is something we are very excited about. To be working with brilliant Birmingham Gay Symphony Orchestra and stunning orchestrator Martin Murphy is truly inspiring
The Birmingham Gay Symphony Orchestra is renowned for their trademark eclectic mix of classical and popular works. Their flagship Pride Proms concert has become a much-anticipated fixture of the Birmingham Pride weekend celebrations. When choosing an orchestra for the event they were the obvious choice given their synergy with Miss Moneypenny’s renegade brand and ethos. The orchestra is one of the most progressive and interesting ensembles around.
Martin Higgins is an up and coming star in the orchestral world and a perfect match for this project. Since graduating from The University of Birmingham in 2011, orchestrator and composer Martin Higgins has been heavily involved in the theatre and film music industries. Martin worked on the live-action film adaptation of Disney’s Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branagh. He also worked on the score preparation for Kanye West’s rare performance of his 2008 opus 808s & Heartbreak at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl in 2015.
Symphony Hall provides the ultimate space for the event. Jim Ryan commented;
Symphony Hall is an architectural triumph and one of the world’s best event spaces in terms of acoustics. The opulent nature of the venue is in keeping with the glamorous expectations of our audience. This coupled with acoustic excellence of the venue will allow the best possible reinterpretation of the big records of the Miss Moneypenny’s era.
Jim concluded;
We want to mark our 25th anniversary in the most poignant way possible. We are creating a legacy around one of the most amazing musical scenes. We can all remember those amazing tunes and the emotions they evoked, the goose bumps, the shivers, the excitement. We want to recreate that magic in new and inspiring way. This will be a night to remember and night never to be forgotten!
