Pure Evil becomes resident evil at Seventh Circle Gallery

Independent gallery Seventh Circle Artworks & Aesthetics is living up to its reputation as an art scene disruptor again, this time bringing Pure Evil (aka Charles Uzzell-Edwards) to Birmingham for the very first time in the artist’s illustrious career to date. This exclusive collaboration will be available to view at the gallery on St Mary’s Row in Moseley from next week, and will showcase a capsule collection of the artist’s designed to divide and delight in equal measure.

Gallery owners and founders, Marie Hutton and Robin Chesworth, have over 35 years experience between them in the fine art industry, and are incredibly passionate about the artists they work with and represent. They showcase some of the finest in local, contemporary talent, from the internationally renowned graffiti artist, ‘Gent 48,’ to the amazing cultural icon-portraitist, Laura Tinald. Other local heavyweights include abstract artists, Iain Perry, Spaniard-turned-Brummie cityscape virtuoso, Daniel Lopez, as well as the intricate and bold works of nail and thread artist, Imogen Morris, amongst many others.

Marie said:

This project with Charles has just been a joy, both personally and professionally. We’ve been following his career for a long time, so the opportunity to collaborate is a real moment for us. His art is iconic and, as proud Brummies, we’re hugely proud to be displaying it here in our gallery for the first time ever.

Doyen of the UK graffiti and street art scene, internationally-exhibited and globally-collected Pure Evil can be found at his resident gallery in London’s art Mecca of Shoreditch. Charles Uzzell-Edwards, aka Pure Evil, is a contemporary street artist whose distinctive style has captivated audiences globally. Born in 1968 in South Wales, he was creative from a young age. His instantly recognisable ‘Nightmare Series’ comprises iconic portraiture, with a signature single heavy teardrop, that delves into the complex interplay of fame and the darker side of celebrity culture.

Charles commented:

Working with Marie and Chez to bring Pure Evil to Birmingham for the very first time has helped me tick another item off my to do list. I rate Birmingham’s independent art scene, particularly the graffiti work we see emerging, so the second city is a natural fit for me. Opening up my art to people who’ve never experienced it before is still a thrill, even at this point in my career. I’m excited to see what comes next.

This debut collaboration with Pure Evil is set to be a catalyst for ongoing presentations of his work in the gallery, and Seventh Circle Artworks & Aesthetics invites you to be part of this artistic journey and to experience the profound impact of Pure Evil’s work firsthand.
