The Utopiates get 2025 under way with their new introspective high-octane banger ‘Evanescent’. Out on the 21st February. This is the third single to be taken from their second album, out later in the year, and coincides with the announcement of March ‘25 tour dates.
The first two singles of the campaign (‘Neighbourhood’ and ‘Reputation’) finished their 2024 in style; with record streams and both tracks achieving BBC Radio 6 prime time plays from Steve Lamacq. Radio X spins and XS Manchester’s ‘Record Of The Week’ selections followed. XS Manchester also recently tipped the band as ‘Ones to Watch’ in 2025. Momentum is growing….
London-based, rising indie-electronic outfit The Utopiates kick-off 2025 with their third single from the forthcoming second album scheduled for a late 2025 release. The previous two tracks from the project have seen the band continue to push their groove-laden brand of indie powerhouse anthems into new electro- inspired territory and this new-found vigour and purpose continues into their highest tempo release yet in ‘Evanescent’.
BBC’s Steve Lamacq and Radio X’s John Kennedy are long-time admirers of the band and The Utopiates are looking to keep building on these recent radio successes with every track released. Along with March tour dates and confirmation of their live-prowess with a fresher, electronic-inspired indie dance set, 2025 will undoubtedly be their breakthrough year.
Since signing to V2 in 2023 and releasing their debut LP ‘The Sun Also Rises’ the band have continued to forge a strong alliance with producer Andy Hawkins (Pigeon Detectives, Maximo Park) in their spiritual and musical home of The Nave in Leeds (Yard Act, Kaiser Chiefs). The album is available to listen to on request and links to this can and will be provided. With the band looking a little more in the direction of New York and some of their UK post-punk counterparts over Manchester and the 90s, this time around, it is evident that their sound has developed and matured into something more inspiring. And they’ve so much to say in 2025 as well.
Singer Dan explains the track further:
‘It’s the first time I’ve done a talkie one, but I loved it. It seems to have unlocked a better thought process with some of my lyrics as I’m not hiding behind the melody of it. I’m not saying we’ll always do this but it’s nice to show that we can, and I enjoyed getting my native Leeds accent on a track. Just to confuse anybody that thinks we’re Londoners!
The song’s about that foreboding feeling of running out of time. We all wish we’d have done something differently and made more of a certain time in life and it’s something I feel more acutely each day I get older.
Time waits for no man…. It’s also an absolute banger. Shortest and fastest song we’ve had out, which suits the sentiment. Josh nailed it with that riff and chords and what Andy’s brought to it in the studio is just pure class really. The production is second to none on this whole record. We’re getting better and better at this thing, so watch out. LOL!’
