Kickstarting the winter season, and arriving next week, The Book of Mormon returns to Birmingham for a four-week run over Christmas and is set to have you laughing from your head to your (mistle)toes.

As we head into the New Year, we welcome shows that have proved hits on both stage and screen, beginning with Murder on the Orient Express, which pulls into Birmingham in January. Lucy Bailey’s new production of Agatha Christie’s classic whodunit stars Michael Maloney (Truly, Madly, Deeply; Belfast; Young Victoria; The Crown) as super sleuth Hercule Poirot.

The Girl on the Train, adapted from the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins, promises to take audiences on a gripping journey as a woman’s dreams of a different life take a dramatic shift when she discovers a disturbing revelation about the perfect couple she secretly watches on her daily travels.

The tension continues in May with the multi award-winning National Theatre production of An Inspector CallsJB Priestley’s masterful critique of capitalism and the hypocrisy of society’s rigid class structure.

Picture You Dead – based on the bestselling novel of the UK’s number one crime writer Peter James and featuring the character at the centre of the ITV series Grace – follows at the end of June. Actor, presenter and Strictly Come Dancing champion, Ore Oduba (Pretty Woman the Musical and The Rocky Horror Show) is among the stars of this brand-new production.

We’re presenting a great mixture of upbeat musicals for those looking for something other than suspense. Arriving in March is NOW That’s What I Call A Musical, a brand-new musical comedy celebrating 40 years of the iconic chart-topping compilation albums. Directed and choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood and featuring EastEnders star Nina Wadia alongside pop icon Sonia, this fun-filled show set in Birmingham is bursting with some of the greatest hits of the 80s.

Hitting the highway here in February is Bat Out of Hell.Celebratingthe immortal hits of Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf, and featuring a dynamic eight-piece band, this raucous rock musical, which thrilled our audiences back in 2022, is set to shake the stage of The Alex once again.

We’re also delighted to welcome back the riotously funny The Rocky Horror Show. On the show’s last visit, the cast took Birmingham by storm, racking up over 2 million views on TikTok after they performed the Time Warp in New Street Station.

The sensational, sexy and sophisticated Chicago also makes a return visit with the multi-award-winning musical set to Razzle Dazzle once again with its sassy score of show-stopping hits.

A spine-tingling theatre experience follows in May with Ghost Stories, offering a series of haunting tales penned by The League of Gentlemen’s Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman, co-creator of Derren Brown’s TV and stage shows.

Ghost The Musical brings all the romance and magic of the 1990s hit film to life on stage, with Rebekah Lowings (The Sound of Music) and Jacqui Dubois (People, Places and Things) reprising their iconic roles.

Audiences of all ages can travel to the wonderful world of Narnia with the West End smash-hit production of CS Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The much-loved fantasy adventure returns to Birmingham for the third time in as many years, having previously played at The Alex in 2022 and then at The Rep during its Christmas season last year.

In June we welcome BMOS Les Misérables – Let The People Sing! Marking the show’s 40th anniversary, BMOS are one of 11 amateur companies across the UK who have been granted the rights to present this special version of the classic musical.
