SPEEDOMETER – http://
Speedometer have been at the forefront of the UK deep funk scene since 1999. Famed for their tight live shows and authentic early 70’s sound, the band have mixed their love of latin, funk and soul to live audiences all over the world (in particular: UK, Japan, Finland, France, Spain and Italy).
Over 13 years they have released dozens of 45’s singles that are still sort after by avid collectors, funk fans and DJ’s. After signing to Freestyle Records (Uk) and P¬Vine Records (Japan), they have released 6 albums featuring several guest vocalists and many of the new wave of funk bands cite Speedometer as a key influence.
Over the years their attention to the authentic funk/soul sound made them the preferred choice for many visiting US artists such as Sharon Jones, Marva Whitney (James Brown band), Lee Fields, Sir Joe Quarterman, Eddie Bo, Billy Wooten and Martha High (James Brown band). They took this expertise into the studio and recorded Martha’s second solo album ‘Soul Overdue’ which received critical acclaim and 5 star review from Blues & Soul magazine.
As a result of their publishing agreements with Universal and EMI their music can be heard in many TV programmes and box office film trailers. In 2010, the platinum selling hip hop group ‘Cypress Hill’ free¬styled a rap to an early Speedometer groove and since then Hip Hop and B¬boys dancers have chosen Speedometer songs as dancefloor anthems such as ‘Orisha’ which has had over 150,000 Youtube hits alone in 2013.
2014 saw the release of the groovy Northern Soul take on Pharrell Williams’s ‘HAPPY’ which has regular radio airplay for weeks. The band’s latest album ‘NO TURNING BACK” was released in 2015 and features a brand UK new soul vocalist JAMES JUNIOR.
