Theatre does not get more festive or unique than this!

One of the most iconic features of the West Midlands’ festive celebrations for three decades is about to make its highly anticipated 2024 appearance – as the Crescent Theatre’s spectacular A Christmas Wassail opens! Starting at Hartlebury Castle on Saturday 14th, two performances follow at The Crescent Theatre itself (Birmingham) on Sunday 15th and Monday 16th and then it’s Middleton Hall’s turn on the 21st.

The Crescent’s Christmas Wassail has been a staple in the West Midlands’ theatre calendar for 30 years. The show is a Christmas revue performed by a mutli-talented cast of around 30 members, with beautiful choral numbers, rehearsed readings and comic sketches. And who knows there may even be an audience sing-along to round the evening off. It’s sure to get even the most miserly of Scrooges into the festive spirit!

Musical Director Gary Spruce has always seen the Wassail as the perfect Christmas tradition. ‘What I think audiences love about it is that A Christmas Wassail captures the very essence of Christmas – everything about it that’s joyful – and it’s also unique in the region’s calendar of seasonal events.’

Director Dave Rogers wholeheartedly agrees. “At this time of year there are so many shows going on, carol concerts, pantomines, christmas plays. Our Wassail is none of them but it has elements of all. And it is the variety which makes it such a joyful production.”

A Christmas Wassail demonstrates the outstanding breadth of the Crescent Theatre’s programming as this show features alongside the breathtaking modern dramas, comedies, classics, Christmas shows and youth theatre productions that form the wonderfully eclectic “something for everyone” seasons that the Crescent uniquely offers.

Christmassy Variety is the cornerstone of A Christmas Wassail. Gary Spruce told us: “Expect a highly varied programme of Christmas and winter-themed readings, extracts from plays, comic monologues and vocal music of all kinds – from traditional Christmas carols and classical Christmas music through to songs by Michael Bublé.”

As if that was not all festive enough, each ticket also includes the option to enjoy a glass of mulled wine or fruit cup and a mince pie to make the experience even more special and Christmassy for the audience.

A Christmas Wassail is only a few days away and is almost sold out so book your tickets NOW to avoid dissapointment!
