A fun series of sports events that anyone can take part in free of charge has been arranged in Birmingham to celebrate the city holding the Commonwealth Games 2022.
The Commonman Games will take place inside venues on and around Broad Street, Broadway Plaza and Brindleyplace on Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27, Saturday 30, Sunday 31 July and Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 August, with a closing ceremony on Monday 8 August.
The entertaining contests, organised by Westside Business Improvement District (BID), will include Cashgrabber, Batak Power, Football Darts, Beer Pong, Pooltable, Shuffleboard, Bomb Squad, Foot Pool and Buzz Wire, along with Rock Climbing and Mini Golf.
The venues are Walkabout, The Malthouse, Heidi’s Bar, O’Neill’s, Figure of Eight, Rock Up and Mr Mulligans, as well as Broadway Plaza and Brindleyplace themselves.
Everyone taking part can pick up a game card at any venue which they can get stamped for every event entered to win an official Commonman Games medal, plus entry into a secret prize draw.
Gerald Manton, chair of Westside BID, said:
We are delighted to welcome everyone to take part in our very first Commonman Games.
We wanted to celebrate the city’s 2022 Commonwealth Games by organising a free and fun series of sports and games absolutely anyone can do. We hope to see as many people as possible joining in and enjoying themselves.
A special thanks goes to all of the venues involved, and a massive thank you to the promoters Vodbull and Naughty Horse who constantly support our bars and clubs so that people have the best nightclub experience on Broad St.
