During Tokyo 2020 there were 339 events in 33 sports, which was the most in Olympic history. This was a truly wide and diverse Olympics though, as it included sports such as skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing and karate, BMX freestyle and 3×3 basketball for the first time.

But what sports will we see in The Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham?

The final number of sports to be played at Birmingham 2022 were released to the public in October 2020. In total, a staggering 283 finals will take place featuring 20 sports. There will be the addition of more gender mixed events such as relays in athletics and swimming with an increase in events open to athletes with disabilities. Basketball is now replaced by 3×3 basketball as with the last Olympics. There will also be events held in India.
