WORD PLAY is a reading festival for young folk and their families, taking place 5th-11th June at How Brave is the Wren Bookshop (Kings Heath) and schools in Birmingham.
WORD PLAY Festival is back for a third year with a brilliant programme of authors and illustrators events happening in the bookshop and in participating schools Hall Green Junior School, Hall Green Infant School, Colmore Junior School and Kings Heath Primary School.
The public programme runs from 8-10 June in the How Brave is the Wren bookshop and includes a special WORD PLAY themed storytime with award-winning writer Piers Torday, author of the The Last Wild Series. Al Murphy, illustrator of A Kitchen Disco and Bathroom Boogie, will be reading from his book A Duck Called Brianand will show you how to draw your own version. Birmingham based Kereen Getten, the author of the critically acclaimed novel When Life Gives You Mangoes, will give a fascinating insight into the world of writing.

The schools and public programme will be presented as a mixture of live and pre-recorded session from amazing authors and illustrators including Marie Basting, Jess Butterworth, Sarah Christou, Carson Ellis, Matthew Forsythe, Lindsay Galvin, Lizzie Huxley-Jones, Farhana Islam, Kereen Getten, Jodie Lancet-Grant, Let’s Make Art, Daniel Thompson, Jaclyn Moriarty, Al Murphy, Catherine O’Flynn, Richard Pickard, Piers Torday and Kate Wakeling!

Once again we’re bringing you the brilliant WORD PLAY magazine, full of activities and samples of new books to read.
