Having opened its doors earlier this year, Shibuya Underground has been the first of its kind in Birmingham, offering customers one of a kind, six course tasting menu experiences in Sake and Japanese inspired cocktails. Over the proceeding months Shibuya Underground has been successful in bringing an insight into the flavours and traditions of Japan to Birmingham through its ‘liquid journeys’ crafted by owner and sake sommelier Samuel Boulton alongside Bar Manager Klára Kopčiková. The pair have triumphantly tantalised the tastebuds of Japan enthusiasts from all over the UK.
In celebration of ‘World Sake Day’ on 1st October, Shibuya Underground will be debuting its brand new tasting menu experiences. The menus available to try have now doubled from two to four, giving customers a wider range of choice and even more excuses to keep returning! These menu’s include a non-alcoholic Tea Menu that works alongside the UK’s most prestigious tea importer, Lalani & Co, as well as an all new cocktail menu crafted by Shibuya’s award winning cocktail team. Finally, there are two, yes TWO new sake menus on offers, a revising of the beginners menu which some may have already samples, or if you think of yourself as a fully fledged sake lover then you can step it up a level with the brand new connoisseurs experience!
Taking about the new menu’s, Bar Manager Klára Kopčiková expressed her excitement saying: Building on what we we’ve already started in Shibuya Underground, since opening, we’ve gaged great interest in sake newbies and experts alike. It’s been fun to bring the experiences to so many people who wouldn’t have normally found themselves sipping a cup of sake or learning about Japanese culture through our cocktail journeys. These new menus give people even more to explore and hopefully intrigue even more people to come and find us!”.
However, the Shibuya Underground experience’s no longer stops at just tasting menus, as todays sets the debut of their long awaited Sake School. If you find yourself taking a keen interest in Sake or are looking for a new interests to pursue then this could just be the thing for you! Kicking off on the 6th October and running on a monthly basis, join the team at Shibuya Underground for an evening of deeper diving on all things Sake in these informal, sake events. Each session will be lead by a certified sake professional and will focus on a specific style, prefecture or brewery of Japan. The sessions are individually priced but remain within a budget friendly range.
If you still haven’t quite filled your boots with all things Japanese booze, then look no further as Shibuya Underground is set to host ‘The Birmingham Sake Society’; a yearly membership subscription priced at £25 that gives you a whole load of benefits.
